Authentic
In 1976, Andrew Ainsworth sculpted, fabricated and produced the original helmets used in the first Star Wars movie in 1976. Thirty years on, he dusted down his original moulds for the Stormtrooper helmet and resumed production.
The Original Stormtrooper Battte spec helmet is derived from the Stunt helmet which uses the original 1976 moulds of the on-screen helmets. The moulded parts are therefore sharp in detail and replicate accurately the original features.
Andrew says "The Stormtrooper bust is truly unique. The Battle spec helmet retains the feel and soul of the original. Displayed with the imposing chest and shoulder armour, the bust creates an impressive centre piece in any movie prop collection."
Each bust is signed by Andrew Ainsworth, the original creator of the 1976 screen-used Stormtrooper film props.
How it all started
When creating the Stormtrooper prototype helmet mould in 1976, it occurred to Andrew Ainsworth that any futuristic military character would have significantly enhanced vision. Andrew developed a fly-type eye to give the iconic, menacing blister Stormtrooper eyes that could just about be seen through, with a little disorientation.
Once past the prototype stage, several modifications were made as helmet production progressed. The blister eyes were too difficult for the actors to see through, as they kept falling over and bumping into things. Andrew says "The solution was to use a plain sheet of green acetate instead. The mic tips were initially quite a crude moulding so these were tweaked a little too."
