Authentic
Original helmets - uniquely numbered and signed by the original prop maker, Andrew Ainsworth.
"These helmets are unique - they are 1st generation facsimiles of the on-screen designs, not sanitised toy versions. They feature the same idiosyncrasies as the original helmets, for example, the original screen-used Trooper "Stunt" helmets featured hand cut eye "sockets" which have been faithfully reproduced on these replicas. Original Stormtrooper helmets are in effect "blood-brothers" to the screen-used helmets."
In 1976, Andrew Ainsworth sculpted, fabricated and produced the original helmets used in the first Star Wars movie in 1976. Thirty years on, he dusted down his original moulds for the Stormtrooper helmet and resumed production.
The helmets you buy today are the most accurate replicas of the screen-used helmets ever produced. Each helmet is hand-made by the original prop-makers using the original 1976 movie moulds. Many of the same materials have been used although, where necessary, more modern plastics have been used which weren’t available in the days of ANH.
How it all started
On 20 January 1976, Andrew Ainsworth was asked to make a prototype Stormtrooper helmet. Armed with a rough clay model and two Ralph McQuarrie sketches, Andrew got to work.
The use of plastics and composite materials was relatively new in 1976 as Andrew, a young Industrial Designer, developed new products and built his own plastic moulding machinery.
As Andrew recalls "Through a trial and error method of sculpting and manufacturing, I successfully created a helmet that Lucas preferred over any other. The die was cast!" A few weeks later, Andrew was given an order to make 50 Stormtrooper helmets for the filming of ANH.
