Authentic
Original helmets made and signed by the original prop maker.
In 1976, Andrew Ainsworth sculpted, fabricated and produced the original helmets used in the first Star Wars movie. Thirty years on, Andrew dusted down his original movie prop moulds and resumed production.
"The Black Trooper was originally marked to be the Imperial Pilot but is now loved in the extended universe as another character" says Andrew. Each helmet is hand-made by the original prop-makers using the original 1976 Stormtrooper movie moulds. Many of the same materials have been used although, where necessary, more modern plastics have been used which weren’t available in the days of ANH.
How it all started
Sculpting the helmet mould
"I made no sketches, no models, no engineering drawings. I sculpted the production moulds directly, using my own blends of resins, fillers and metal dusts. The production moulds were the sculptures - they were positives, negatives and reverse engineered. They incorporated undercuts and tumblehomes and produced a moulded finished article that caught the highlights and shadows of an organically formed being. It wrapped around the body as if it had grown." Andrew Ainsworth describing his approach to sculpting the first Stormtrooper helmet mould in 1976.
