A visually stunning, unique and wearable collectible. Our Shadow Trooper armour is an accurate replica of the Stormtrooper armour we produced in 1976 – only using today’s more advanced production techniques and thermo-plastics. The Shadow Trooper armour kit offers substantial savings on our ready-to-wear armour while still offering the same accurate replica finish. All of the components are pre-trimmed for you and we supply all of the fixings required to complete the armour. Enjoy the experience!
- Made of 2mm acrylic capped ABS, this rugged armour looks great on a mannequin (available separately).
- Strong enough to withstand the rigours of costuming too!

- Gluing position for the connectors is marked on the inside of the armour.
- Leg jointing strip cut to width and pre-made elastic straps supplied
- White ABS glue and strong adhesive backed Velcro are included

Authentic
Original armour from the original prop maker.
In 1976 Andrew Ainsworth sculpted, fabricated and produced the original helmets and armour used in the first Star Wars movie. Thirty years on, Andrew resumed production.
Andrew explains, "The Black Trooper was originally marked to be the Imperial Pilot, but is now loved in the extended universe as another character. We decided to offer this lower priced kit version so that more people could enjoy the stunning Shadow Trooper.The armour is an accurate replica of the screen-used outfit we produced in 1976 for the Stormtrooper. It's been a real joy bringing the original moulds out of prop storage to create armour for today's ANH fans to enjoy."
How it all started
In 1976 Andrew Ainsworth, a young Industrial Designer lived and worked on Twickenham Green in south west London - an area known for its film and television studios. Nick Pemberton, who lived nearby, was a successful scenic artist and puppeteer. Nick was approached by the 'buyer' for StarWars to make various helmets and ancillary items for the film. Nick took the work on with the idea of convincing Andrew to produce the characters as Nick was impressed with the plastic moulding techniques that Andrew was deleloping just a few doors away.
Nick created a red clay mock up of the Stormtrooper helmet which George Lucas approved. Nick then asked Andrew to make the prototype helmet showing him the red clay mock up and two sketches by Ralph McQuarrie. It was now over to Andrew to turn these into a living, breathing Stormtrooper helmet......
Dressing
Armour kit components are pre-trimmed and the armour accommodates various body dimensions – typically 5’6” to 6’2” (165-185cm) with various builds. Once you have assembled the armour kit, you may find our armour dressing instructions useful.
