Description
The Rebel Pilot (X-wing) Stunt helmet is cast from the original 1976 moulds. With its smoked grey visor, the Stunt version was used for all the on-screen action shots in ANH. Today’s helmets made by the original ANH prop maker accurately replicate the appearance and finish of the original screen-used helmets. They don’t get any more accurate than this! The helmet looks superb on its display stand or can be worn at Trooping events as it’s made from rugged ABS. Original helmets - made and signed by the original prop maker.
Andrew Ainsworth sculpted, fabricated and produced the original helmets used in the first Star Wars movie in 1976. Thirty years on, Andrew dusted down his original moulds and resumed helmet and armour production.Andrew notes "We've not changed or sanitised the helmet design as we know our prop collector customers want them exactly the same as they were when we first made them in 1976. Originals!"
Using the original master moulds each helmet has the same idiosyncrasies as the orginal screen-used helmet. Each helmet is uniquely numbered and signed by the original creator, Andrew Ainsworth.
How it all started
After making the initial Stormtrooper prototype, Andrew was introduced to John Mollo, Costumer Designer for the film. Andrew recalls that "John was an excellent communicator. We had an empathy - an understanding of what was required and John used every character I gave him."
Andrew continues "We made around 20 Rebel Pilot helmets for on-screen use in Episode IV - A New Hope. The Hero versions were for close-up filming for the main characters, while the Stunt versions were used for more general action shots and got rougher treatment – a bit like Trooper events these days!"
